• Born 1975 in Bristol, England Despite hard efforts to make permanent our mark on this world, the natural environment reclaims its rightful place given time and chance. The earth goes back to being the earth. And the things we built and used and invested with meaning and some amount of private magic are buried in green graves along with the rest of us. It’s a humbling process – and achingly beautiful. What I hope to find with my camera is the poetry of organic time - places and common objects in transition, still resonant with identity but broken from their former glory and given new meaning. These prints explore the borderzones between nostalgia and nature, all those forgotten and forsaken places that the earth is reclaiming for itself and objects, which remind me of the useless mechanical bric a’ brac that my late father used to pick up at flea markets, I am finally seeing what drew him to the old cameras, gramaphones and pre war gadgets which would eventually serve as heavy dust gatherers. To me these objects and rooms have an animating spirit, their own voices to be heard in the stillness and memories still woven deep into the man made materials. I choose my art paper carefully as I feel that this is one of the most important parts of the creation, I print these myself so that I can control all aspects of the way that the final artwork looks and feels. For these prints I have used heavy smooth fine art paper to give the final print a flat almost watercolour texture, or baryta paper for a deep rich quality that pulls the viewer into the print.
