IN BLOOM: Violeta Sofia at ME Hotel London

Even though this is Violeta Sofia’s first exhibition at ME Hotel London, it almost feels like a reunion. Given that Meliá Hotels had their beginnings in Spain, the same place Violeta was raised from a young age, that’s one more reason why the space and the artist become a fitting pair. Another reason is how seamlessly the works compliment the space. The black marble wall becomes a stage on which the graceful staging of Violeta’s scenes, the dreamy, unreal lighting, and the considered application of tropical paint play out with sophistication. From the lush flowers, ostentatious dress, and references to multiculturalism, there’s a wordliness to her art that can be recognised by the diversity of people who stay at the hotel. The painterly luxury of her compositions goes beyond mere beauty, telling a vibrant story of self-expression and connection.
