Overview

Populating the ground floor of MYO King's Cross in this huge group show are artworks from Alice Amati Gallery. Faces and figures recur like echoes growing louder throughout these pieces. Katinka Lampe’s female portraits embody delicacy and determination. Their ambivalent expressions so vulnerably painted makes one wonder whether they’re invited or intruding upon their privacy. In Miko Veldkamp’s scenes there exists a similar ambiguity, that of space and location. Places and people from far away collide in these compositions like snippets in a collage. Finally, in even the dissolving space of Sophie Birch’s abstraction there are human forms fleeting before the eyes. Even when these familiar forms disappear, their absence references something bodily and relatable.
