HEART TAKES FLIGHT: Catherine Long at the Lucent Lobby: In collaboration with Wilder Gallery

With Catherine Long’s works on the walls, Lucent’s expansive lobby takes on the quality of a dance auditorium. Gestures, emotions, and getaways pulse off this trio of paintings ascending in size from a single panel to a diptych and triptych, their effect intensifying respectively. As a string of surgeries and diagnoses left Catherine unable to dance as before, her hands stepped in for her feet and the canvas became a stage across which her painterly movements are literally weightless. Every colour she regales on the linen has a referent in the natural world, thus Lucent’s dazzlingly white walls and panoramic windows allow Catherine’s vision of a sublime environment transcend the senses of the people passing by.
