HANDFUL OF SPRING: Violeta Sofia at 5 New Street Square
As we head into the final peak of winter, Violeta Sofia’s works appear as a good omen of an inevitable bloom. Many still lives used to feature flowers that couldn’t possibly exist together given that they grew in different seasons. They thus became a snapshot of desire over a period of time. In a similar manner, Violeta’s theatrical photographs which she embellishes with paint can be enjoyed in any season. Blending the sensibilities of still-life and portraiture, Violeta’s bouquets go beyond flowers and into an expression of multiculturalism through the artefacts, luxurious colours, and opulent dresses that appear alongside them.
