Susanne Baumann’s (b. 1982, Germany) work reflects on memory, loss and the fragile traces of human presence. Her artistic practice is deeply influenced by her father’s battle with Alzheimer’s disease, inspiring her to explore how identity slowly erodes and yet persist in echoes. Her paintings and drawings evoke the quiet remnants of memory – interior scenes, ordinary objects, and captured moments that resonate beyond the visible. She sees absence not as a void but as a presence in itself, lingering in shadows and reflections. Her paintings transform everyday spaces into quiet sites of memory and longing, inviting viewers to reflect on the fragile connections that remain. Baumann completed her Master’s Degree in Painting at the Royal College of Art in 2023, following her graduation with distinction in the Graduate Diploma in Art & Design, in 2022. Her work has been featured in numerous exhibitions across London, including at Lychee One, The Handbag Factory and HSBC Headquarters. Internationally, she was exhibited in Shanghai at Astra Art Gallery. Her recent recognitions include being shortlisted for the Hari Art Prize (2025) and Clyde & Co Art Prize (2025/26).
