Lucy paints for the feel of it. The hit of a colour, the dry-scrub or full flood of the brush as it meets the surface. Her process is layered and intuitive - applying, removing, and repsonding over time. Led by impulse, the viscosity of the paint, a fold in the paper or a fabric seam - nuruting the balance as it develops. Then through editing, tailoring, and re-assembling, the work becomes hers.
in her latest series, she reconnects with elemental childhood preoccupations, searching for the calm internal space of play - unconsciously working things through. She defines the rules which evolve as she goes, keeping her engaged until it's done.
