Colour first. Joanna gets lost in it.
One colour, a mark- it works or it doesn't. She works with pace. It's physical. She can be prolific or still. She sees the colours in her mind and moves forward.
An adventurer. Her paintings are cartographies - not only of physical spaces but of nature and memories. Half mermaid, happiest in the sea, painting takes her back there.
Submerged.
She works big because she has to. It's a part of her.
Things fail, or magic happens. An affirmation of life, its splendour and misery, and while she has this gift she wants to celebrate it.
She's not finishing paintings, she's stopping them.
