Caitlin Heffernan is a painter based in Brighton, working with raw pigments, sand, oils and
charcoal on large-scale canvas. Her practice is rooted in landscape, geological time and the entanglement of human and non-human worlds — materials gathered directly from specific places carry the substance of those places physically into the work. She completed the MA Painting Programme at the Royal College of Art in 2025, where she was awarded the Vice Chancellor Scholarship. She holds an earlier MA in Fine Art from Central Saint Martins and a BA in Fine Art Printmaking from Winchester School of Art. Heffernan has exhibited widely across the UK and Europe. Recent exhibitions include D Contemporary London, Chilli Art Projects, the RCA MA Painting Show, and Safehouse Peckham. Her awarded commissions include works for Metal Arts, Somerset Art Works, the Jerwood Drawing Prize and the ING Discerning Eye exhibition (2023).
She has undertaken residencies in Cornwall, Portugal, Sweden, Nigeria and Latvia, including Porthmeor Studios in St Ives, the Turps x Pada residency in Lisbon, and Konstfack University in Stockholm. In autumn 2026 she will be artist in residence at the Rothko Museum in Latvia.
