SHAPESHIFT - Group Show at Myo Victoria
Does an objective reality exist at all if all of us perceive it through senses that are fundamentally subjective? Inner feelings imposing themselves visually on the outer environment. From one person to the next, the world is sliding scale between figuration and abstraction. The works collected in this show represent brief segments of this vast spectrum. Shape, colour, gestures, and movement are engaged in a chaotic dance that every now and again orders itself into synchronicity. From one day to the next these works might appear different to you, depending how you’re feeling. There’s uncertainty to it all, but there’s also excitement and opportunity. Like gazing at clouds or trees or carpets, trying to find and recognise patterns. A survival instinct evolved repurposed as aesthetic appreciation. Well… we all need a bit of beauty to survive after all.
