Tom Norman

Tom's abstract paintings explore underlying emotional states and responses to unseen fleeting moments. One starting point is engagement with emotions that need to be given form - that is born out of a practice of somatic therapy, which is a way to visualise emotions through the body.

Other inspiration starts with a visual prompt, discovered through intentional observation - something unusual, fleeting or unnoticed - commonly a magical connection between nature and man-made spaces. When the painting starts talking, I know it's complete.

My work is characterised by devised colour and relationships, structure versus flow, construction marks and shalow layering techniques evoking space, movement, and emotional resonance.
